Vermonter here just shrugs and says "yeah, its winter". We know what to do. The snow cover is around 6=8 inches, keeps the buried water lines insulated, never had frozen pipes, if its prolonged minus 20 every night, you keep the taps dripping. The woodpile is in the basement nice and seasoned, Some of the older chickens may have to brought in. The goats have their winter coats. Black ice is deadly and it looks like there will be heavy snow squalls that will hit suddenly, that will change the interstate into a rink. that is the biggest danger, people think 4 wd turns their car into a snowmobile. It does not, it is useful in driving on packed snow, getting out of a deep spot without spinning in place, and on mud. Same rules follow. Slow the hell down, no passing, and keep your distance. Tap the brakes very lightly, if you feel a skid coming on, go slow. There is a reason that most of us who drive cars drive Subarus. The distributed weight on their AWD models really does keep us on the road, but you have to know how to handle it, flatlanders and recent transplants should stay off the road, we all have the exact time the squalls are coming through, and excellent weather warnings in this state.
If you hear there's going to be ANY kind of snow, freezing rain etc when you're down south...say Georgia - Get your ass out of there ASAP or find a place to hunker down...preferably behind safety bollards...If you're from the Northeast and have witnessed how people drive in winter weather around those parts...you'd be mortified.
Somehow...many think mashing the gas pedal is the best way to get out of any kind of skid...Nothing like summer tires rated for 45F+ mounted on spinning rims to tackle snow on the road. It's like watching the world's biggest crash up derby in living color...Black ice is particularly entertaining...
I have seen the videos of what it looks like, city buses going sideways, cars doing 360's. The last thing you want to do in a slide is hit the brakes, although it is a natural reflex for people not used to it. You should drive into the direction of the slide and GENTLY steer out of it, and touch the break like a kitten would. The drivers from Connecticutt and MA are the worst, weekend skiers with 4wd speed passing on the interstate, sure enough, they are on the median like turtles on their backs a mile up from you. Our lifestyles revolve around the snow, which is why most rural places in winter are closed by 7pm, no one wants their employees having to drive in bad winter weather.
Grew up surrounded by mountains and snow that piled up and covered windows . Chains worked. The first thing my dad taught me when I drove on public roads was how to put them on. (I know. They claimed chains tore up the roads). And remember when everyone had two sets of tires? Winter and summer. And remember hanging a light bulb over the carburetor (I think I am remembering the part right) so the engine would turn over next morning?
Old timers up here would shovel out hot coals from the stove, put it in a large cast iron frying pan, and shove the thing under the engine block. I did do that once, when it had gone down to 30 below during the night, and in morning when the sun came up, it was 15 below.
Colorado native, we have about the same amount of snow where I'm at and it's supposed to hit -5 degrees tonight. I grew up driving in snow but won't drive during the first couple storms because of the transplants. I used to love spinning doughnuts in empty parking lots during the first storm but not now. Last night I counted over a dozen idiots wrecked in the ditch. Same thing when monsoon season would hit in Arizona, every cheap SOB with bald tires crashing.
My biggest concern in this weather is finding a cord long enough to plug in the block warmer on my diesel and hoping in the morning I remembered the night before.
I just go out on really cold nights and let the car run for about 15 minutes every 4 hours, it works. Not deisel though. Just got home, drove through the squalls at 3 degrees, snow stopped full moon sitting high. People were behaving themselves on the roads tonight, but I was behind a MAsshole, obviously with no snow tires, they were doing about 25 and still slipping. All season tires are not for the north country! You need snow tires, and better yet, snow tires with studs!
You got me beat by a few degrees, we don't have homeless here. Told the girlfriend minus 5 is nothing, wait till it hits minus 30 😂... negative 34.4 to you maple syrup swiggers.
Screw that, I shovel snow off my driveway in a speedo just to remind my neighbor he's a pussy... just kidding, I don't have neighbors or a speedo but sometimes I do go warm up my vehicle naked.
Minnesotan here, this winter keep your home secured and your valuables as far from the road as possible, we have over a million people from the deserts who have never seen snow driving semi trucks. Expect winter chaos
I love it when it gets super cold, like visiting another region of the world. In central PA yeah it gets cold, really cold sometimes, but other places get it worse. Plug in the truck's block heater, start it up, drive around and watch folks not suffer so much, but everyone helping everyone get their car started, extra heaters from friends and family, you know, community. If people are stuck, whip out the kinetic tow strap, have a good time. Gather at the bar, warm up with a nice drink, just like the movie groundhog day, warm up, party, get cold, warm up again, party. People in these areas are built a bit different, our trucks aren't show pieces, they're set up for actual work, to get the job done. No matter if it's 80 or -10 outside. Yup, we even have idiots too, those who think 4WD = invincibility. Not so much, ice is ice, it doesn't change under a 4WD
Kind of like the heat, in summer, in Arizona. People would say, "Oh, global warming." Um, no, just NO! We live in a freaking desert and it gets HOT! LOL
I thought it was to supposed to get hotter? What happened to acid rain? What happened to killer bees? Oh well. Glad I don't live there. Trump did say it will get colder.
Don't you remember? "Global Warming™" was re-branded to Climate Change.™" LOL And I think, maybe, the acid rain killed the killer bees??? Sounds good to me! 🤣

I kinda like the Subarus (never owned one), but my wife thinks they are dyke cars.

Minus 25 Celsius next Monday in Montreal. Prayers for all the Homeless.
Christ... yeah I'll be praying

Maple Syrup Envy is a thing. 🥞😆
Certainly better than Bud Light! 😂
Those damn CO2 gasses are at it again. You know, the ones my daughter's textbooks told her was causing global warming. 🤡
Ugh- I’m ok as long as it snows too. Can I order that up as well?
Wait.. so you're telling me winter is coming? OK, Time to throw on a heavier jacket.
Screw that, I shovel snow off my driveway in a speedo just to remind my neighbor he's a pussy... just kidding, I don't have neighbors or a speedo but sometimes I do go warm up my vehicle naked.
I would like to have you as a neighbor!
Perv!
😂

trump has been proven right yet again.
This.
AKA. Weather I live in Alaska and our weather never makes the news. It’s “just Alaska”

Even a witches tit? Man, that’s cold.
IT's finally coming true. Back in the 70s the climate alarmists were predicting a new Ice Age. We now have both an ICE age and a really cold winter.
I thought it was to supposed to get hotter? What happened to acid rain? What happened to killer bees? Oh well. Glad I don't live there. Trump did say it will get colder.

Ha, I see you are skilled in the art of liberal logic!
Climate change prediction 48. SO far Climatologist are 0 for 47.
In the mid Atlantic, they're still painting the skies with chemicals.
Just proves the WHs do not control everything. The Globalist still have a hand in destroying the planet.
Greenland as well?
