The movie industry honoring themselves with awards to encourage people to go see films with the "best" designations -- why wouldn't we want to see this and be manipulated?
It's a sly way of saying that the Oscars have lost their viewing audience, and that nobody cares about watching them anymore.
If there was an audience, advertisers would be interested and ABC or other network would definitely still broadcast the Oscars. If no audience, then put it on YouTube.
