They can't because they lack the programming code to perform the type of in depth analyses that the Scientific Method requires. They can't even perform the Socratic Method, which is the foundation of the Scientific Method, so why are people questioning whether the LLMs can practice proper science?
They all say the same thing: that in order to get the most benefit out of them, you have to train them, aka, program them to perform the tasks you want them to perform properly.
