Chernobyl is like Area 51- no nuclear issue but its a great cover story to keep pesky people away from finding the aliens.

Theres literally no reason for russia to have done that. If they wanted it leveled, it would be leveled.
Plus wouldn't the prevailing winds carry any fallout into Russia? There's no upside to shelling the facility - it has no strategic value - and plenty of downside.
And it makes me wonder, after all these years, why the media is bringing this possibility up now? There's nothing to make this a more or less vulnerable nor strategic target today than there was several years ago. If they didn't attack it before, what possible reason could they have for attacking it now?

The shelter was already hit by a Russian drone and it severely damaged the containment shell. For now it is somewhat under control while they figure out what to do from here. The containment shell took billions and years to complete. It was meant to house the original site until it could safely be dismantled. It would not take much to finish the job the drone strike started.
There has been no denial from the Russian side about this strike that I am aware of. They are usually pretty quick at denying something that the Ukrainians are trying to pin on them. There are plenty of examples of false flags and screwups.
Let's be fair. Both sides engage in underhanded actions. As far as who tips it over the edge and causes a major nuclear crisis is anyone's guess. Both sides have motives that cannot be discounted. All is fair in love and war - or so they say.

Fukushima has been bleeding radioactive water and materials into the Pacific for YEARS with no way to stop it. Chernobyl is a firecracker as far as Fukushima is concerned. Pretty soon I look for the Japanese to have gills!
