They're going to lose because they can't take out Trump, so they're hoping they can align with the Democrats and get rid of him in order to re-establish themselves as the controllers of the Republican party. I suspect Trump has had DOGE working non-stop to uncover fraud. Some things Trump and co. can fix. Some things they need public attention to move a solution. Others require Congress, which means they will not be completed this year. Johnson and Thune just won't get on the team. The margins are just too narrow. We can't get Collins, Murkowski, Turtle, and Paul to be team players. In the House, it just takes 2-3 to turn coat. Massie reliably does this, and there are plenty of other opportunists.
This means:
Trump has to work through executive orders. He's not getting help from Congress.
Trump will use personal relationships and trade deals, since he has broad authority over international treaties
Trump has limited control over the military and limited control over the intel agencies. Neither can be counted on.
If you're Trump, and you're systematically stopped by the entirety of the Washington bureaucracy, you have to negotiate with the people. So, he's going to keep leaking tidbits to journalists, YouTubers, streamers, etc. He'll point them in the right direction and let the citizen journalists do the work. They dig it up. We amplify it here and elsewhere. Trump uses social media as the ultimate bully pulpit. When he wants to attract enemy fire, he puts his name on it. When he wants it to spread rapidly, he lets someone else without the name recognition push it.
