New York boy, 15, missing after traveling to NYC to meet someone he met on Roblox, family says
The family of a missing 15-year-old Long Island boy say their son disappeared two weeks ago after going to New York City to meet someone he met through the online game Roblox.
Thomas Medlin left the Stony Brook School around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 and "ran" to the Stony Brook Train station, where he boarded a train to Grand Central Station in New York City, the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release on Jan. 12.
Police released a surveillance image of Thomas at Grand Central Station, where detectives say he was last seen around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 9.
Yan said that behavior was unlike Thomas.
"He has never left our side," Yan told the outlet through tears.
"I just can’t believe why he left in the first place," James Medlin, Thomas’ father, told the outlet.
I don't use it, but i heard roblox is bad, your kids should never be unsupervised if they're playing an online game where people can reach out to them. Before hand, you should probably train them to never give their real information out, including not confirm any guesses about them if it's true. In fact, make it a rule to watch them play, and praise them if you ever notice them protecting their information, to let them know they're doing the right thing.
I play with my children - completely involved in their gaming. Just played a round of 99 Nights in the Forrest with my son today and got some hot Weird Gun Game action in with my daughter. They have really tightened down interactions between adults and children now. However, if you're there playing with them (they don't really get alone computer time except for doing homework) then any game is as safe as you want. Roblox from a gaming/developer perspective has been an amazing platform.
Nothing about Roblox is amazing. I don't care if you're supervising kids or not, the fact they continue to allow things like Charlie Kirk assassination simulator and the satanic pedo shit, it's not something kids should be around at all. Blocked it at my router so I know they're not seeing anything to do with it
To each their own... we've never come across a Charlie Kirk assination simulator that's for sure... I just checked now with various searches... nothing - you apparently had to take someone's word on this if you have it blocked at your router. And I have never seen satanic pedo shit on their - but then again I can honestly say I have played every game my kids play with them... excellent platform - don't believe the hype.
Yeah, it could happen.
Isn't there other games out there that are bad for kids?
yeah anything with open chat to the world is a breeding ground for predators
recent update has locked this down considerably and open chat with all ages is no longer available in any game. If you are over 21 you cannot even see chats from those under 18... same the other way around.
There’s a lot of negative posts here about Roblox. https://greatawakening.win/search?params=Roblox&community=GreatAwakening
I hope that they can rescue this kid, but parents need to watch the games their kids get into.
My kid told me a couple years ago it's easy to spot the Roblox pedos, and there are plenty on there. Raised her right.
