They've been using Nazi for decades. Every Republican president since WWII essentially has been called one at some point.

I don't. Throwing that label around is a recent development. I do remember when democrat public image wasn't stark raving mad. Goldwater and Kennedy were friends.
“Recent” is definitely at least 24 years, as far as widespread hostile antagonism.
