I have to disagree with the OP. God is in complete control. There is no battle there. He wins period. The satan is a created being with a purpose. He only exercises the control he is allowed to have - to challenge mankind. (See Job) The battle is between the inclinations of the heart of man and evil influence. The battle is ours, not God's.
