Good point about Sega (I keep forgetting that the SMS dominated in Europe and South America in the mid 80s up thru the 90s for the most part!)
Nintendo's draconian licensing agreements with 3rd party companies (Konami in particular) damaged the Sega Master System here in the USA ... 3rd parties weren't allowed to make any of their titles for the SMS or Atari 7800 if they appeared on the NES (there are a couple of minor exceptions like Ikari Warriors, Xenophobe, and Commando on the 7800)
Atari basically killed itself ... Their idiot CEO during the Warner era allowed two of the stupidest things to happen to the Atari 2600 ... That shit version of Pac Man and the infamous ET. There's more to the story, but those two games mortally wounded them.
Same could be said about SEGA honestly...
