Anons have been looking at this all wrong. If we were not in NATO tomorrow, would our defense budget be less? Not really. we would basically have the same stuff, just not forward deployed. Could we lose money? Yes. Currently they buy a lot of our weapons systems because of commonality, we force them a little and we make the best stuff. It would probably cost us more for the ships, etc. that we would need to deploy from the US.

In the past, NATO led the Democrats around by the nose ring. With Trump, it is the other way around. Still more to do there though.

In reality, American tax-payers' money is being spent by the American government on American soldiers in the American Military who use weapons supplied by the American Military Industrial Complex which is staffed by members of American families.

I didn't spot any outsiders stealing anything there.

These are just defense budgets.. The money isn't stuffed into bombs and exploded. A majority of all that money is salaries in this country and even the equipment purchased is made in this country that pays salaries in this country.

For all spending there is a seller and a buyer. You cannot just look at the effects of one side of the transaction while ignoring the other.
