Yes, he floated the idea around last summer, it would be real nice if they could do something about it. I think there was some tax breaks in the big beautiful bill or readjustments anyway when it comes to taxes there. Maybe one day it can become a reality though!.. Remember as well something about them not being able to take your home away or having to buy it at market price and only reducing it the amount of taxes owed.. or.. something along those lines.. So, if they take it from you for owning 10k in taxes, they need to buy it from you at market price -the 10k owed...
It is a State thing and some of those states LOVE using property tax hikes so do so every year. IMO, they are in your face, trying to make everyone they can, lose their private property by, cranking up property tax so even if your family lived on that 1 acre lot or 10+acre horse/hobby ranch.. for generations, current gen suddenly cant pay the property tax that just went up 1k+ so they lose the property and the state profits from its sale.
While I was browsing homes for sale last year in WA, I was looking at the photos of homes and this one property, (it was an older, small 3 bed 1.5 bath house on an 8acre property)the seller stuck one final photo at the end and it was, a bill showing the current property tax and the last years property tax.. the current one was 3k higher. .. I can only guess why that property was for sale :(
Seniors were losing their homes in Florida because of that. They don't work and they are old so you can't mess around as they do with the working society economics.
FL has a constitutional amendment called 'save our homes'. Property taxes can only go up 1 to 3% a year, forever. It has one time portability to move and keep the new tax rate stable, once again.
If you're building a new home you had two years to finish it, and use that portability. Last year FL legislation extended the building to 3 years, as people filed grievances because their houses weren't finished, and they could not afford to lose the 'save our home' portability.
Florida had many seniors and it was going to be catastrophic a real epidemic as property values increased, certainly after the '90s when technology became available. Florida wasn't just God's waiting room anymore. You could move early still work while living in Florida via the internet.
Because we have an aging population all states should consider such legislation as Save Our Homes, enshrined in their constitution.
I don't know if property taxes ever go down. If they do, I never heard of it happening.
In regards to Trump and property taxes, I think he's taking to correct approach which is to dismantle Dept of Education, and the entire school grift first. Because 75% of property taxes go directly to funding schools!
Once that's cut off, the taxes go down and normalize then can be phased out completely.
He might make a suggestion, but seriously? Property taxes are local taxes. Look at your bill. Your county will be listed, as well as your city if you are inside city limits. If not, you'll only pay county tax. How does that have anything whatsoever to do with the president at the federal level?
If the largest line item in a property tax bill is SCHOOLS and School Bonds is a racket like USAID it can become a Federal issue as the bonds are sold nation wide.
You can easily CHALLENGE the increase. The question you as the Tax Appraiser is
" Do you include properties in your assessments that use "additives" to be rolled into the purchase price of the home ? "
This includes, Title insurance, Points or commissions, Adendum costs, Fees, Impact fees, zoning costs, etc. .
Of course the answer is yes, the point is, if your not resorted back to the year prior, you ask them . . . Do I file suite against you, or the RICO case for my neighbors as well ?
This has proven to be very effective and absolutely true. IF the RICO case would be filed, it would go to the Supreme Court with $ Trillions awarded to ALL homeowners whom taxes were levied against.
Property taxes don't fall under federal purview. See 10th amendment.

Thank you…it’s amazing City Officials get a raise every year
They should make property taxes a federal tax credit, rather than just a deduction.
Thats a Local and state issue atm
Someone of modest means in Illinois said hers went up $1,000!!!!

It's not the schools. It's everything else. School support stays in tact.
A well hidden racket , is still a racket.
