And why wouldn't they? They erroneously, but in many cases, innocently trusted the machine...played by the proverbial rules and honestly believed, "oh they wouldn't do THAT! this is the land if the free and home of the brave! I go to church and pay taxes" yada yada...
Many of these people NEVER had the idea that anyone outside of themselves in a position of authority is by nature, suspect.
I'm not making excuses for the stupid people among us... but they ARE stupid and don't make good choices - but they're still one of God's creatures & laughing and calling them out for screwing up isn't a hallmark of taking the high road OR something one of God's representatives does...

I don’t have any ill will towards good people who were honestly duped. It’s more about the ones I know personally who sniggered at me and called me an “idiot” at the height of the hysteria, telling me I’m a bad/irresponsible parent etc.
Now most of them are now “inexplicably” sick or have other issues and I just have zero sympathy for them, “all God’s creatures” etc notwithstanding.
It's just one of those things - and now that they know they were and are tards, they gotta live with their inner dialogue replaying them acting like shit to you...of course they'll never admit that, but that's human nature.
