"The U.S. military has given the president a plan to seize nearly 1,000 pounds of highly enriched uranium in Iran that would involve flying in excavation equipment and building a runway for cargo planes to take the radioactive material out, according to two people familiar with the matter."
These "people familiar..." don't know much. Fly in construction equipment and build a runway for cargo planes?
How about having the marines fly in CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters. They can carry cabin loads of 30,000 lb or carry externally slung loads up to 36,000 lb. The Super Stallion has a cruise speed of 173 mph and a range of 621miles. It also has an in-flight refueling capability.
The U.S.owns Iran's sky. We can extract the uranium any time we want, and be gone before Iran figures it out.
Has nobody considered that this premise could absolutely be a smokescreen to get Iran to try to move their uranium while we observe - or while we attack what little leadership they have left while much of the IRGC is busy moving the uranium?
Either premise is plausible, but the observation of them moving the uranium is more probable. They might be rushed based on "the impending attack" and could move it to somewhere that doesn't have the level of protection it may have now.
