Many (most?) churches in Texas have security teams, with some being armed. The churches also (mostly) allow concealed-carry. Some, like mine, post a "no open carry" sign on the doors. Note they didn't say "no concealed carry"...
I don't know how other states do it though. I suspect some are similar to Texas, but more are likely to ban guns altogether (unfortunately).
Churches absolutely need a security team and plans.
I live in Nevada and attended a congregation where over half of the congregants packed heat, including myself. I was in position to cover both entries into the sanctuary. We understood the real threats and discussed them regularly and made sure we had security plans in place. Sadly, it is the world we live in.
