My Pop was a soldier and a butcher. He made it with fresh shaved beef. No one else in the family liked it so it was our shared “man” breakfast when the ladies were away.
I’ve always loved ‘em. Topped with a dollop of mayonnaise. My Gran was a Scots Canadian and she often made it for me.
I also love a full English breakfast.
