AI will control a nation's financial system, energy, military technology, transportation, deliveries, inventories, tracking food supply, resources, Healthcare, etc... . EVERY large nation will become completely dependent on their AI centers.
5,200 Data Centers, separately powered and in different locations in our country, are nearly impossible to knock offline, destroy, infiltrate, or corrupt. The Data Centers are dispersed and autonomous. Protecting our biggest assets by shear numbers and diversity of locations and protective measures. The U.S. Will become the global AI leader.
China has 1,818 Data Centers. Other nations may only have a few hundred centers.
To stay ahead, we have to build ahead.
Are you implying that if America wanted to, we could wipe out Chinas 1818 data centers and they'd have a very hard time doing the same to ours? Heck, all they have to do is toss a few nukes over our country and wait for the EMPs to crash every center.
I've been inside the Facebook data building here in Iowa. Cell phone didn't work, guy I was there with explained the whole building is a Faraday cage. That it's protected well enough to survive an EMP. That was almost 10 years ago.
I'd put good money on anything newer being as well if not better protected.
The rest of the grid, sadly, is another story.
Want to see a neat party trick? Post a picture of the Facebook Data Center into Facebook. You can see it for about a day then it's gone. No one else can see it. Then you get a 3 day "warning " for some random picture you posted years before. I've done it 3 times back when I still used it.
Don't know about that one, but they are likely using the same design standards as nuclear plant containment buildings by law have to use. Obviously data centers don't have to follow DOE regulations, or 10 CFR 50.55a - but why wouldn't they use the data the DOE/NRC compiled in order to shield reactors from missiles, tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, or a full, big airplane crashing into the containment building?
These tech companies building giant uber-expensive data centers would absolutely want to protect their investments. Besides - some of the biggest ones will (and already do) process government data - including classified - in many of those new data centers. Those will have strict requirements, likely similar to the plants. They will probably have massive protection against EMP as well since DOW is integrating AI.
Not a fan of wikipedia but this article checks out with what I know.
"5,200 Data Centers, separately powered and in different locations in our country, are nearly impossible to knock offline, destroy, infiltrate, or corrupt."
...they will all be serving different purposes, and the duplicates will be easy to target....

" separately powered"
...that's the rub...
4 dot termination ending the target.
