Many countries are democracies without being republics (UK, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Japan, etc.), and some republics are not particularly democratic. The UK is firmly in the that category.
That's primarily because the uk wants to be a democracy but can't because it's actually still a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. This is a long winded way of saying the civil service run the country at the gracious will of the monarch, with the parliament simply there to take the blowback of all the flak said arrangement causes.
The U.S has more or less functioned as a Representative Democracy with a very loose Republican Framework in practice since the early 1800s after the States started expanding the Franchise. In part because since the people guaranteed the right to own firearms but who couldnβt vote under the system as originally envisioned. Also decided they wanted the right to vote.
As originally envisioned. Most of the population including most Whites could not vote. And the States could and frequently did arbitrarily raise or lower additional barriers to voting of their own accord.
So technically on paper at least. Thereβs a difference. In reality weβve functioned more or less as a representative democracy for most of our history. Instead of the Aristocratic Republic originally envisioned. Which was more or less a dead concept with the first expansion of the right to vote.
Ironically the steady expansion of the Franchise was a point of contention and concern for some of the founding fathers in their later lives after they retired from public life. As Democratic influence on the Republican experiment rapidly spiraled far outside the scope of what they initially intended.
...actually it is a circle jerk...
...and guess who gets to be the pivot man/woman...
Let wing, right wing, same damn bird.

Great post
The word democracy is not in the constitution. Not even once.
They keep saying it's a democracy because they want mob rule.
First let's make sure it isn't just a corporation.
Ask anyone what the pledge says. It shuts them up every time.
βA democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on whatβs for dinner.β The wolves are happy with it, but the lamb, not so much.
I have a shirt that says It's a Republic Not a democracy
if not a representative democracy then why do people care about vote counting and the sanctity of voting?
