Same here - what kind of modern country would allow televised begging to take care of their old people? And why wouldnt Mike Huckabee ask that question - otherwise I think he is a good person just not much of a critical thinker.

That's the right question. I do not care for his actions but I would guess the context in which he proposed this is the Christian influence through Jesus Christ, which he wouldn't mention or lose support, which round aboutly is tied to that land but indeed in spite of the historical people of that time and directly despised by the audience today.
It makes sense. Israel was founded in 1948. We weren't a country until shortly after a revolution in 1776. Everyone here knows 9 comes before 7. That's basic public school math.
He sounds like a broken record. He made an almost identical speech last September. I do understand his reverence for the role of biblical Israel in the history of the world, but the modern state of Israel is hardly the same thing. And, as a Christian minister he should be well aware of that.
I will say he always sounds upbeat and positive when he is speaking, regardless of the topic. I would like to read the entire speech transcript before I render a more harsh judgment on his comments.
