The laws regarding vandalism needs to be updated -- the MINIMUM punishment for intentional vandalism should be equal to or greater than the cost of the repair (plus punitive damages) -- and the funds should not be able to come from third-parties, only what they themselves have earned (or will earn, in prison). In this case, it will be millions. These people should never see the light of day.
Second, if ANYTHING can show that TDS is completely irrational, it's this act. There is nothing to 'boycott' or 'protest' here. It is pure hatred of Trump (and America) on display.

All the people who have been arrested in regards to the "vandalism" are claiming all they did was reach into the water to feel the lining that was already coming up or pulling chunks of liner off the surface of the water or nearby grass.

Trump says a lot of crazy stuff that doesn't make sense. But then looking back, you can see he set a trap to expose yet someone else. Seen it over and over again.
If this was a trap to expose people, who exactly were they exposing?
So far, the publicly identified people don’t look like some major sabotage network. One appears to be a 67yo former Olympian who says he touched liner that was already peeling, and another was apparently arrested for disorderly/obscene language near police, not for damaging the pool.
And if the goal was to expose vandals by letting them reveal themselves, why all the barriers, gates, extra security, National Guard presence, and restricted access around the pool? Those measures are designed to keep people away from the liner, not lure them into touching it.
A trap lets the target act while you collect evidence. From all accounts I've been able to find, there is no credible evidence of these people deliberately damaging the liner. Barriers and guards prevent the act from happening in the first place.
So what is the theory here?
Were they trying to stop vandalism, or were they trying to bait vandals? Those are opposite objectives.
And even if we assume it was bait, what was gained? Was exposing a handful of random people supposedly worth damaging or risking a $14 million renovation? That only makes sense if the people exposed were significant and the evidence proves a larger operation. If all we have is random arrests, citations, and people touching liner that may have already been coming up, then “it was a trap” looks more like an after the facr explanation than an actual plan.
Lots of symbolism. Step back, look for connections, look for Qincidences, what matches up. What happened just before and soon after.

But I'm sure more will come out of this along with all the other happenings.
