I was conflating getting rid of the Dept of Ed with getting rid of public school altogether. I do still have concerns regarding funding - my state isn't doing so well financially, but I was mistaken. Thank you for your responses. They helped to straighten me out.

I was wondering the same thing. Not sure why you got downvoted. But I suspect I am dum.

No, I didn't. A bit before my time. I do know that correlation does not imply causation - a lot has changed since 1979. But I suspect that things need to change if we want them to get better. Could also get far worse. Public schools around here seem to depend on that federal funding. Can't imagine them surviving without it.

I do choose what's best for my children now. Don't you? If you are forced by necessity to send your children to public school, what are you going to do if it is eliminated as an option? You do make me wonder exactly how much of my tax money goes to education but I assure you private school is far more expensive.

Eliminating the public school system isn't going to bring that back.

So like private schools? What happens to the families that cannot afford it? Or how is this funded without a Dept of Ed? Doing away with the public school system sounds like a very big deal to me with very big consequences - like a lot of unsupervised children running around while parents/guardians are working for beginners.

What do you think the day care should be replaced with?

Not a tech. I find that clearing browser history and restarting device fixes most (not all) issues.

I am a teacher. I am not a member of any union. I am not a Marxist. I do care about the children. And I am not the only one. I have been called a shill on this site a few times and briefly banned on here for . . . I'm not sure really - it wasn't explained.

If a teacher in a 45 minute long class has more influence on your child than you, then you are doing it wrong.

If you think the children are more important than your checkbook, then homeschool or better yet maybe you should become a teacher. . . Or just keep bitching and blaming others.

Whoops. It was February 2020. It wouldn't let me edit.

More commonly the results are shared and then ignored. Nothing happens. See Hillary's emails, Obama's birth certificate, etc.) I am praying and hoping things will be different this time.

Just to add to this . . . Word has it - shhh I'm one of those people brainwashing your kids - children that have gender dismorphoria err are nonbinary gender fluid will be allowed to choose their restrooms. This is the plan in my county anyway. Parents haven't been informed of this decision yet. I am a parent too. I am not happy about it. I don't want to cause problems for my source - guidance counselor that also thinks it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Yes. You got me. I'm a shill.

Or maybe I actually read the article that the OP posted and pointed out that it appears that the OP didn't read their own post fully before sharing. I would prefer quality posts rather than see this gathering become a circle jerk echo chamber. But go on and use ad hominem attacks like all the other retards.

Very good. You are correct "must, want/need" are words that carry a notion of subjectivity up to the point of and including objectivity. I used those words to add a condition onto the option that I was offering. That "must, want/need" can be determined by the OP. I did not realize that there would be people down-voting and arguing semantics with me.

I struggled with the same dilemma that OP was asking for advice on. I am not "anti-vax", but I did have some concerns. We home-schooled until our children were middle-school aged and - believe it or not - wanted to have the public school experience - you know - friends, dances, football games - all that stuff that their mother and I experienced after we were vaccinated so that we could attend public school.

If you want/need your children to attend public school in WV and you cannot get a medical exemption there is.

If you must vaccinate your kid, then I would recommend that you load them up with vitamins and space the shots out. This is what we did with our kids. The doctor seemed to believe we were being a bit much, but we insisted. It's been three years since and the kids are doing fine.

You are splitting hairs with your definition of censorship. I just don't want this place to become a mindless echo chamber.

I don't think you are understanding me. Let me try again. You are calling for an elimination of fake news, half truths, lies, and manipulation. That is the same thing that the social media sites and MSM are calling for - practically verbatim. It sounds like a no-brainer - of course only truth should be spread. The problem is who gets to decide what is "true" and what is "lie"? I, personally, would like to be able to research and find the truth for myself. I do not need someone protecting me like I'm a idiot. I feel that my beliefs have been solidified by being given the opportunity to debate with shills, trolls, and the misinformed. I do not want anyone coddling me. It will only leave me weak.
