Yeah being on this new forum for the past few days made me realize how Voat was absolutely bombarded with trolls/shills and just bullshit in general.
Yep, it required dedication to keep the information flowing. It's actually pretty easy to spot shills once you're around them all the time. Those wanting to help stick out like a beacon. The informative posts on voat remain unmatched but it's also obvious there are some great minds on here.
I was on voat for 4 years, loved it. Was a shame when shills came along but like you say it was easy to spot them.
Only thing on here I have observed is that quite a bit of the time you have to click on the title to actually find out what the post is about.
On voat it was mostly obvious in the title what was in the post, that was helpful.
Still very glad there was a platform to come to, thanks greatawakening.win !!
If you go to settings, there is an option to display the post without clicking into it. It made my td scrolling better.

This forum is moderated. And I can tell you that the shills DID start in immediately, trying to wear the mods down by complaining endlessly that this place is anti-1A.
They would’ve silenced us if given the power. A shill’s hypocrisy is delicious.
I'm not so sure all of them are shills. There is a big difference between free speech and moderated speech. It's not factual to say WIN is a free speech zone. It just isnt and that's perfectly ok and doesnt need to be argued. We can still have great discussions on a moderated board. Sometimes the little bit of censoring will allow for better communication flow. Sometimes its abused and the forum can become a gatekeeper.
The Mods here appear to know that line so that's why you're seeing such success.

I see what you're saying. It's funny. Truthfully coming from Voat I had an initial feeling or idea that anyone who wasnt 100% for free speech was just a part of the problem but that isnt true at all. I had a bias obviously and it was clouding my judgement of this site initially.

Know where I've seen the most shills and bots these past several months? FB neighborhood groups and corporate groups, propagandizing the wearing of masks and social distancing. Profiles always show an idiot wearing a mask Not difficult to spot a shill account or a bot (low follower count), but when you dispute their claims and they throw out "Qtard", you can let the group know there's a paid propagandist in their midst.
I've come to accept there will be some so entrenched in their beliefs that I'm better off flagging them mentally and just keeping them at a distance. Truthfully anyone who has regular emotional swings should be flagged mentally as potentially dangerous. The type of people that just follow the crowd but are not morally guided so they can be tricked into almost anything.
