Google is delisting websites from DNS and removing entries. It may be more widespread than that. They literally don't have entries anymore. This means it will not resolve an address if you put it in. Even if you have the IP direct, you may not get to it because cloud flare blockss it for ddos protection.
It may be they have been completely removed from the registrar as well
Red 2 may be happening right now
*confirmed that godaddy is axing website registrations
you beat me to it. lol.
You can redirect all DNS requests back to the pi with OpenWRT to beat hard coded DNS devices too.
Moved to qud9 and quad 1 a while ago, prefer quad9.

May need to reconsider.
I think most people will be using the default DNS servers provided by their ISP's DHCP server... relatively few would have manually switched to using a different DNS server like Google's, thankfully.
That said, deleting DNS entries to censor sites they don't like might be considered a form of DNS poisoning, if those deletions were allowed to spread throughout the rest of the DNS system.
However, you should be able to get to sites using their IP address instead of their DNS name. Oh well. Looks like the shit is about to get real sometime soon. Finally.
It seems like for now that godaddy is killing off registrations. Dns is the simplest and easiest way for them to get rid of undesirables from the internet even if they are hard to stamp out, like gab currently
I have no idea what that means. How do I know if I have Google dns 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4 4?
It will be in your router config
It's a manual setting you would have made to your computers dns settings. If you don't know what it is, you aren't using it. You are using whatever DNS you provider happens to be giving you
Okay thank you.
Pardon my ignorance, but where would we find out if we are using these things --whatever they are.....
You should be OK, as you have probably messed with your DNS settings to use Google's DNS server -- this is very popular with computer savvy folks because Google's DNS servers can be faster their ISP's.
I always suspect that Chrome records everything you do, especially if you have a GMail account. Also, they can redirect your search and say sites are "not safe." All for your "protection."
Use duckduckgo
Any recommendations? Obviously cloud flare and open dns ( cisco ) are a no go.
Tiny linux host and run your own local copy of BIND. Just get updated from the root servers. If those get bastardized then the internet is lost.
Not unless you really plan on it for major web browsing
how, what are suggested dns ?

Follow the guide. Where it shows an image with 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4 4, change to 9.9.9.9 or 1.1.1.1

Holy shit thank you for this post! I made the change YEARS ago and totally forgot about it. Just deleted the settings.
