The punishment for treason is specific in the Constitution. Hanging. Death.
With sufficient proof, death is appropriate penalty for crimes such as treason. Enjoying its execution can be harmful to your soul, but refusal to pull the trigger is also dangerous, as the Uighers and Tibetans can show us.
