Yep oldest building in DC. The brits didn’t burn it down in the war of 1812 because they respected the US Marines that they had fought against shortly before.
Apparently the group there that protects the President was infiltrated. They were taken out before they got to the President. I keep meaning to dig into it more. Q post or someone else pointed me towards that...
Did not know this - Thanks for sharing!
It does make perfect sense since the Marines are so totally involved with providing security to POTUS + White House + transporting POTUS; Marine One, the green Ospreys, etc.
They refer to the band as that and I have heard of the old guard. As a Marine veteran I know that the marines are commanded by the president during curtain operations without congressional approval.

Really? Wow.....amazing.
That should tell you something about the honor of warriors

The Commandant lives there. So yeah.
“Marines are the presidents own”
Not sure about that. That reference has been used for the 3rd Infantry ‘The Old Guard’. I know because I served there at Fort Myer.
Just a phrase https://www.marineband.marines.mil/

Dang it, you’re right and I should have remembered. And thank you for serving!
