If they were heading TO the capital, it isn't disrespect to face away, as they are supposedly guarding from outside threats, also, Biden is a civilian without title or rank at that point...there is no respect necessary (or deserved, really) at that time.
Try saying that to any military buddy you have (if any) and see what they say. If they aren't a total schlub you will quickly understand the significance.
