If you can get around an IP ban, your IP address wont (easily) give away where you’re from.
And I don’t know the anonymity promises of this site (I, nor anyone else I’ve seen, has ever threatened anything illegal), but I still know that in this progressive totalitarian nightmare, legitimate users would certainly not prefer to have their legitimate IP addresses tracked and stored.
TL; DR, there are better ways to accomplish what you (and I) want than through IP addresses.
True - was relying on the notion that some shills might just be taking zero precautions. I've seen a lot of them at work and they don't always exactly go the extra mile. I would not be unshocked if some of them got nailed that way.
Look to the right of their username and if there is an icon it indicates a new account. The Icon is that of a Handshake, hence them being called Handshake accounts.
Click on the username to see both history and on the right side of screen you will see how old their account is.
I have been seeing A LOT today that are an hour old and younger, crazy!
It is most likely Media Matters and or Share Blue. They get paid for replies so I wish everyone would just DEPORT them by clicking DEPORT under their comment and or post, next to REPLY.
I did not know they get paid for replies! Thanks for sharing that. I will refrain from replying snarky comebacks from here on out and just deport.
I do wish there was a ban on new accounts posting. Even a week would be helpful. It would majorly slow down the shills plus it would force new users to just observe and get the lay of the land before posting. I think it would help a lot.
Just quarantine them. All their posts are corralled in to the “Shill Out Zone” until an agreed upon time has passed.
Maybe make is so for every post they write while in there, for it to actually be posted, they have to include the phrase... “Joe Biden is a pedophile.”
I like it! Along with posting he is a pedo they need to post one of the many pics of him sniffing the hair of 10 year old kids or the articles about him swimming naked in front of female SS agents or even go further and post pics about Hunter, shit, I can go on and on and on.........
Maybe we need a wheel that they click on and it spins and whatever it lands on they need to post, kinda like a Wheel of Fortune wheel.
Noooo. Don't quarantine meeeee. (I think I'm still a handshake anyway)... But this page has become a permanent fixture for me since finding it a couple weeks ago! Hahah- sorry, just being selfish. :)
I'm two or three weeks old, have been living on here all day and all night. I still haven't made a post, only replied to a few things. I agree that a month minimum before posting. These shills are making me lose my religion. Not really, but kinda.
It seems even just a small change could vastly change the quantity of serial trolling by, even slightly, raising the cost to creating endless shill accounts.
A handshake quarantine would indeed be effective, and welcome as I see it. And inactive (i.e. created and troll-banked) accounts should not be incremented towards handshake-free status.
I'd prefer, and recommend, a quick and easy New Post criteria along the lines of what I saw a similarly-frustrated poster in TDw suggest the other week: Accounts should have to hit a certain number of comment points (100? 500?) before they are eligible to create new posts. That way new users aren't prevented from contributing to discussion immediately (although a 1-day waiting period here might not be a bad thing, either), but they can't be up and ready to crap all over this site within the span of mere seconds with a new account.
Rather than ban handshakes, create a filter option that allow individual users to block seeing handshake post and comments until they receives a particular amount of upvotes.
Then there are those who can deal with the shills and trolls and leave those filters off and do nothing but deport once it's clear a user is controlled opposition.
Also wonder about IP bans. I know it's not hard to get around them, but even small impediments might help. Also interesting to see WHERE the IPs are.
Yes, sir. Wouldn’t it be cool if that were a thing.
Welp - it's a thing, it's just not a very good thing XD
True true, fren.
But sometimes it beez that way, papi.

Me too, there have been a number of posts asking for the Mods to disallow new accts from posting but it has fallen on deaf ears.
Don’t even need to stop them from posting.
Just quarantine them. All their posts are corralled in to the “Shill Out Zone” until an agreed upon time has passed.

If they don’t, post is autodeleted.

Hells yeah. Muhfuckin’ idea man!
I sumbitchin knew there wuz summayall up in here.
How do we make it happen??? We need them to commit!
Noooo. Don't quarantine meeeee. (I think I'm still a handshake anyway)... But this page has become a permanent fixture for me since finding it a couple weeks ago! Hahah- sorry, just being selfish. :)
AHH! I think I'm no longer a handshake?!?! This is an exciting moment for me.
congrajumalations! :D
You are not a handshake.
Congrats!!
I'd like to thank the academy......

I share your frustration, CD.

Yes, #metoo
I say let them come! I have fun with them until they leave sad back to their echo chamber!
Hmm. Weird.
They can be here, but just in a walled garden until their true nature is revealed.
Why would anyone have a problem with that?
Sheesh, even just a couple days in quarantine would exhaust the attention span of at least half of them.
Hmm.
Really? What are they saying?
Yea I'm like you I'm hesitant to believe that the set is fake. Is that why they are here because they are that scared?
Yeah, and unless I’m way off, and techfags, plz jump in to correct me...
This handshake quarantine could be implemented fairly easily by the mods, yes?
Here's an idea I had that I posted elsewhere.
Rather than ban handshakes, create a filter option that allow individual users to block seeing handshake post and comments until they receives a particular amount of upvotes.
Then there are those who can deal with the shills and trolls and leave those filters off and do nothing but deport once it's clear a user is controlled opposition.
These filters would also help new members.
