What happens when/if they make the minimum wage $15... and make it enforceable? And once we start to see the effects of that? Note I work for a smaller family owned business... they looked at me and said out right "none of us have really thought about that, but you make more than that"... though yes I do make over 15 its not much over, and assuming the effects are what they seem they will be... my wage will no longer be a comfortable living wage(hell it's barely a comfortable wage now).. so basically I was just told a cost of living increases hasn't even been considered and I'm going to go from earning a decent wage to a nearly unlivable wage. (Note: my position consists of multiple different duties that I've never met another single person able to do all three. Not bragging I just know my worth it would take two if not 3 people to replace me).

They haven't thought about it !? Do they think other companies are going to just absorb the costs? Do they not think their materials, supplies, inventory and consumables are not going to increase across the board? If they haven't thought about the consequences, you may need to dust off your résumé.
And this is why in a few years, $15 an hour will become the new poverty wage because the prices of everything else increased to match it.
Then they will go for $20 minimum wage, only for history to repeat
Then they will go for $30, 40, 50... hence hyper inflation.
Ding ding ding!
Someone knows basic economics :)
Raising the min wage is just a short term solution to a big long term problem...
Make them think about it more carefully.
Regardless of whatever the Dems do.
Help them consider your worth very carefully.
You will both benefit.
I’m sure they’ve thought about it. You just won’t like the answer.
The only reason government mandates and raises minimum wage is for taxes. Earn more pay more, price of everything in the store goes up store pays more in taxes and so on and so on.
More importantly, a lot of union work wages are tied to the minimum wage. So when that goes up, so do their wages. Think of all of the public sector unions in particular. Notice how unions are always pushing for increases in the minimum wage? It's not out of caring for entry level workers.
The way minimum wage works is not that everyone makes that now, it just means that a job that provided less than $15 per hour of economic utility is no longer legal. It's not that they get paid more and now you need to get paid more, it's that the job no longer exists.
We used to hire free software interns. Instead of paying for an education, they would get a free education. It allowed us to build the people we needed exactly to spec. It also gave them a fast-track path to a paying job, often starting at double minimum wage several months into their internship if it was going to work out.
Now? Not allowed to. It's against the law to benefit from their "free" labor, so if we didn't pay them, they wouldn't be allowed to contribute. We simply choose not to do this anymore. They now need 5 years of experience to get their first job to start gaining experience. It's bananas.
#fact
And this fact doesn't just result in "unforseen consequences".
Rather, these job losses, waste, hopelessness, and destruction are "unacknowledged consequences", that everybody honest knows are guaranteed.
But the Left not only doesn't care, they depend on it.
I'm in the Seattle region and while everyone screamed about the $15 minimum wage killing restaurants, they said it was a conspiracy theory and not how economics works.
Fast forward two years pre-pandemic and the same people were posting articles about wondering why so many restaurants are closing their doors... smh.
Sounds very familiar... because I probably don't live very far away from you. ?
Looking forward to our regional post-Awakening mask-free BBQ! Good times ahead!
That’s is their plan everyone must be dependent on them so we will do what they say. Great trade for them not so much for us.
I lived in San Jose CA when they bumped the minimum wage...I was a supervisor making $5 more than min wage, had staff that had been there a few years making $2 or $3 more than minimum wage...after the increase I was only making $3 more than minimum wage and everyone else was now making minimum or just a dollar more...we also stopped hiring people and my crew went from 5 people to 3. All the liberals I worked with were pissed at the company saying they should have increased everyone’s wage by the same amount...I was the only one that predicted exactly what would happen haha and told them it doesn’t work like the fairy tale they think life is...
Here in CA they do not have to even pay the $15/hour minimum if they have under like 10 or 15 employees. Id need to look up what the number is but you say you work for a small bizz, so could end up a similar thing. In that case, they only have to pay 12/hour here.
Trust me when I tell you, EVERYONE is replaceable in the workforce. I know this first hand from field experience in this exact situation. You are just another body, that willingly does more to ensure your spot. Someone else could just as easily fill your spot, and may even be cheaper.... FACTS.
If this really goes through I'd have to believe inflation is going to be big. To me, I see costs for everything going up. Nothing is free. So again, they're sticking it to us.
Some red States will nullify I think, hopefully you're in one, if enough do it I think it would offset the negative impacts since many blue states already have higher cost of living and wages for lower paying jobs.
I've heard this also... however Ive also heard fed has the ability to enforce a minimum wage through the IRS... not sure they can not sure how that would work but how would a state be able to nullify it if enforced through the IRS?
