Could be weather related?
Maybe they are off for presidents day.
I know my son's squadron is down for Prez Day.
I'm just guessing, but I bet a couple hundred military planes have their transponders off for some reason. Are they simply grounded because it's Donald Trump Day?
Training holiday
Shore duty units won’t be training on a holiday. May account for much of the decrease.
I've been near an Air Force base for a couple of days now. It's in the Florida panhandle. I come hear nearly every year and i always see cool military planes flying low along the coast at least 15 times a day. But, in the last couple of days, i haven't seen ONE!
It's a 72!
Call on the monkey werks to review....
Military planes can turn off their transponders. So there could be far more in the air than than, and we just can't see them.
I'm new to watching them. How do I isolate the different types of aircraft?
Lucille, on the https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ website, click the "U" so it turns black instead of white. This will show military only planes.
When you click on individual planes you will see what type they are and specific call signs. For example, https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=adfeb8 has the call sign VENUS92. VENUS is often associated with the first lady being on board.
If you do a search for Boeing C-32A you will find additional details on what the planes typical use is, https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/104518/c-32/
Sometimes, you can pick up interesting flight patterns by watching which airports these planes are leaving from and arriving at. For example, I've seen some pretty interesting activity at Offutt Airbase in Omaha, NE the last few weeks. This is the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). There have been quite a few flights between DC and Offutt.
On most typical days, you will see 150-250 military planes in the air at any given point in time. When I originally posted this link, there were only 13. Even if it is just because it's Donald Trump Day, that seems like very few planes to be up to me. National security and national defense don't take holidays.
Thank you so much!
