I was the biggest professional sports fan ever. I watched it constantly. Now, I never turn it on and do not care about it or miss it. If I feel this way, shit has changed. I never imagined a world where I could live without it.
All part of DS programming: addiction to soaps, dramas with endless episodes, "news", sport etc so you don't notice what they are doing. Good to break free.
Totally agree. Even when I was super into it, I was still aware that it was programming. Kinda like being a drug addict but at least knowing it is a problem. Maybe that is why I broke free.
Habits can enslave, need to be careful which ones we indulge in.
My husband was like that. We even had cable to support his sports addiction. In the car radio sports, sports all the time. Then we cancelled cable abd he started waking up. Then the months leading upto the stollen election, the the election and January 6th. We haven’t watched a pro sports team since last March maybe. Feels good he got off Of it.
Same here! Been a lifelong fan. I turned 30 last year and I think now that I am older than most of these athletes I used to look up to, I see them now more as talented individuals instead of heroes. A great portion of them are just normal dudes, but a good chunk are shitty people.
I don't feel the same loyalty to my local city's teams anymore. They are purely corporations out for profit and give fuck all about their fan bases.
Simultaneously, the great statistical hoax happened last year, combined with the over the top social justice garbage force-fed into broadcasts, along with live sports without fans, which just flat out sucks and 75% of the energy is out the window.
I still tune in for a big game here and there, but my viewership is easily 90% down. I'm voting with my dollar and at the same time freeing up personal time to improve as an individual.

Sure we want them to get paid, but not so much that it's $300 for parking, nosebleeds, a beer, and a hotdog. And on top of all that to spit in our faces by removing the anthem or flag kneeling.

Nobody asked for a side of politics with their sports. All they had to do was keep entertaining and they would have seen growth during lockdown. Idiots.

Good! Now it’s time these stupid leagues admit what some people already know: that the games are no different than professional wrestling and the league does control the outcomes and craft storylines just like professional wrestling.
Which is stupid and annoying, as the storylines write themselves. You don't have to fix the games to have interesting storylines occur. But they just have to have the perrrfectttt stories, it has to make the most money. Can't just be pure and honorable.
This is why the only sport I have continued to watch is pro wrestling. They are the only honest sports league.
And for the most part the various promotions stay out of politics. Although I think All Petite Wrestling has done some SJW nonsense.
Yeah, AEW is a huge mixed bag. Usually just take the time to get something done when they throw the trannies out there. Jim Ross made a pronoun joke the other night though so you get a full spectrum experience at least.

It's amazing too being nobody could leave their house lol. I'll admit I still watched football. I played from pee wee to HS, I just genuinely love the sport it's hard for me to just detach from it.
I did as well, and did truly enjoy watching the NFL. But after the first knee went down, I turned them off and I havent watched since, and its been awesome. Like I broke free from some sort of shackles. You can do it! ;-)

That's only the beginning. I have completely stopped watching and I dont plan on starting that time-wasting habit again. I will stick to tennis highlights and the occasional pro-wrestling ppv from here out.

Huge NBA fan here. Watched every game my team played for years, bought league pass, attended in person. I haven't and won't watch ever again unless they apologize and denounce BLM, which they won't so...
