As a native of North Yorkshire, I can assure you that's not true. You need to be into Scotland before the "r" is noticeably stressed as it is in Greek (mostly).
My mom was a Scott I can assure you she rolled her 'rs' and was a stickler for pronouncing thigs correctly. The funniest was Wednesday, she would pronounce it Wed-nes-day where we her in England pronounce it 'Wensday'
And we call you Maniacs lol
My family is originally from Maine. But back in the 1700's. Great state. Amazing coast line and I love love love baxter state park. Or. Baxtah state paahk
My wife is from Maine (but born in MA) :) All her relatives are there and we try to go every summer for a week or two. I love it there; at least away from Portland and/or Bar Harbor :) (I actually like a lot about Portland, just not the politics :) )
The new england region of the US would like to have a word with you. I say something closer to "cawd" and further up north theu say "cah-d"

Pfffft. In Utah we drop bags of those Ts on people all the time.
Go ahead, ask them to say Moun'an (mountain). I can't even spell it phonetically LOL
Oh also if you do not live in Utah, we have mastered the use of creek... It is crick
Haha yeah I say mou'n as well. Same with curtains I say cur'n
That sound is called a glottal stop in linguistics!
Today I learned! Thanks for that :D
Plenty of native Utahns pronounce garbage "garbeej" too. Also "pop" is preferred instead of soda. Utah is a beautiful state!
I love it here :D
As a native masshole I say " caahd*
First time I've heard someone from MA confess to being a masshole :) People in Maine call people from MA that all the time :)
