Unfortunately, the headline is misleading. They're not getting rid of toxic metals in foods altogether, but only reducing them incrementally over the next few years "to levels as low as is reasonably achievable.” It seems like this should've been acted on a long time ago.
"The Baby Food Safety Act of 2021 would set maximum levels of inorganic arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury in baby food and cereal that manufacturers would have to meet within one year."
"The bill requires levels to be lowered further within two years through U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance, and three years through regulation. It mandates manufacturers test final products – not just ingredients – for toxic heavy metals and post results online."
Is there ANY "safe" level of these toxins? Last I heard, the answer was no.
They always use the old "there are toxic metals in foods naturally" line, which is true, but we all know not to eat the core of an apple for a good reason.
Wait why?
While this is an issue, what I think is even worse and is detrimentally damaging babies and toddlers today is the amount of soy in formula and baby food. A lot of mothers are opting out of traditional formula in favor of straight up soy milk or soy-based formula! I can't even imagine what kind of damage this is doing to young bodies. They're going to be soy-dependent from birth it seems!
OMG my mom was right. When my daughter was born, I still lived at home and she (Mom) insisted we never buy baby food. This was 30 years ago. She introduced me to a hand blender and said, "whatever we cook for dinner, take a little bit and blend it up, and that's what she'll eat." She was right - my daughter is healthy and beautiful and never had any health issues growing up. When she had my granddaughter, I told her the same thing. It's worth the $25 investment to keep your child safe!
Baby food is totally unnecessary. If you can, breastfeed and avoid formula as well. But as for solids, baby led weaning is an awesome option. Basically, you feed them food as they’re ready for it. There’s lots of information and inspiration on how to do it, check it out if you have little ones!!
It's perfectly safe if only the peasants use it.
The fact that we need a BILL for this just shows you we're living in Hell on Earth.
WTF were toxic metals doing in baby food in the first place?
That's where all those good "natural flavors" come from.
I made all of my son’s food when he was a baby by buying produce in bulk at Costco, steaming it, running it through the blender, then freezing it in those tiny mason jars. It was sooo easy and saved me tons of money.
How brave.
Our lawmakers are taking on the powerful "pro-toxic-metals in baby food" lobby. :>)
Leave it to the Democrats to fight for the children.
Step 1 buy instapot
Step 2 buy fruits and vegetables
Step 3 Make your own babyfood
