I've been keeping eyes on the Ever Given situation periodically throughout the day. It's just after 3:30 am, Egypt local time, and the Great Bitter Lake is once again empty, just Big Green herself.....and HALKI, a bulk container ship which has been stationed just off the EG's stern (about .2 nm away) for the past two hours. At least, that's how she appears to be stationed. Her status is "under way", but her future track seems to be locked down. Any experienced boatfags out there able to shed any light on this weirdness?

where is the Eisenhower?
and where is the missing sub?
Any stories around on that still? There was a MSM article about the sub that was never delivered to Russia at one point. Can’t find it now.
different sub...https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7972447/U-S-submarines-scrambled-deadly-new-Russian-sub-East-Coast-major-operation.html
Yes ships use transponders to communicate their location just like planes and they can turn them off especially military ships
There's currently one US Military ship declaring its position at the northbound exit of the canal, out in the Med. The ARCTIC. I don't know its function.
Okay now that's interesting
USNS ARCTIC is an oiler. T-AOE. My guess is it's the duty oiler for the Med because IKE is in 5th Fleet, through the Suez.

Someone on /pol/ said they thought maybe the Ever Given is providing cover for something going on underneath the water; destruction of cables possibly.
Interdasting. Cables to what, I wonder? Whatever might be happening, they didn't want any extra witnesses around to see it.
I'd take it with a grain of salt; he didn't have anything to back up that theory, but I thought it was an interesting possibility that I hadn't considered before.
Oh, absolutely.
Most of the boats heading north out of the lake are also bulk carriers.
When I checked earlier this evening the lake had about 20 vessels all parked up.
That's what I saw, too. And all but one of them bugged out. There isn't even a tug pulling babysitting duty tonight.
HALKI update: just after 4 am, local time. She's in the northbound queue to exit into the Med, with other ships fore and aft, so that 2 hours of apparently sitting astern of the EG but status "under way" adds a definite layer of strangeness to the whole situation.
As far as I can tell, Big Green is all by her lonesome in the Great Bitter Lake.
Do you mean HALKI? She's doing some weird stuff again. 50 minutes ago, she crossed over the line on the map that I think signifies international waters, has seemingly stopped, but is still showing 'under way.' Interestingly, her apparent position is roughly 2 nm away from the USN ship, ARCTIC. I don't know what that means, but I'm going to keep eyes on it. She might do a transponder 'leap' again and be halfway to Istanbul.
Looks like traffic is picking up from either end of the canal. But there was a few minutes when there was apparently no ship making the transit. Very weird.
The Suez is not a 24 hour operation. Usually there are 2 convoys each day and there are none at night/twilight because of the proximity to land.
