FDR tried it and his own party rejected the idea, agreeing that packing the court with the purpose of overturning its ideological alignment would be unconstitutional. It would also lead to a very chaotic SCOTUS, with each party adding more seats to tip the balance in their favor every time they gain control. The ultimate result would be the annihilation of the SCOTUS' capacity to check and balance the other two branches.
Didn’t RGB say packing the courts would be a terrible idea?

Perhaps, but imagine the number of Treason convictions that could be obtained and upheld with 500 justices on the Court.
Yep. And so did Breyer. And those two are/were liberals. I can't believe the conservative justices would disagree.
