My instinct tells me you're right, and my instinct tells me it's no accident that the term "gaslighting" has become rote in low-level "critical thinking / arguments" that one sees on reddit, for instance. Same goes for the whole pantheon of "philosophical fallacies" one sees parroted these days (STRAWMAN!!!).
Predictive programming. Introduce the terminology to the brainwashed, make the terminology less effective in being used as real debate tool by making it lose all of it's meaning by being misused constantly and incorrectly.
