Are they attempting to copy what China as well as other Asian countries have been doing? I believe every cold/flu season comes around, they put on a mask to protect themselves, except it's only voluntary but strongly advised to do so.

I also had a Filipino friend who confirmed my Korean's friend's comment so that's how I knew about the facemask wearing during cold/flu seasons were the norm in Asian countries.
