If you think when you write down "Organ donor" on your drivers license, you're a good person, well maybe you are but here's the flip side. If your organs are healthy and there is a waiting list, there is more financial incentive for you to be put on drugs and pronounced brain dead, and if you don't think this is a business, put on your mask back on and go about your day like all the other sheep out there.

This is 100% false. Organ donation is insanely difficult as the person donating needs to meet very specific criteria to even be considered. In addition, they need multiple next of kin to agree and sign paperwork authorizing the donation. We don’t look at patients’ licensed when they’re hospitalized, nor do we use their license as a “go” for calling the organ donation physicians/surgeons. To be fair to you though, you work in a small corner of the healthcare industry. I’m assuming you’re a good, ethical caregiver; of that we can be reasonably sure? This story highlights another small corner of the industry and let’s face it...money drives every train in this world. Stuff goes-on, nobody likes it. It is what it is BUTit must end like so many other ugly Truths. Eh?
exactly. like so many other things, " it depends"
Only certain organs. They can take skin, tendons, etc from mostly anyone. And they will call and pressure the families after death and before the body is released to sign off on donation. Source: I am a mortician.
As a mortician, may I ask you if business has been busier than normal over the last year? Has it picked up even more in the last six months?
I can’t speak for all areas of the country but it’s been about the same in mine. I asked my former coworkers from from former funeral home after I quit but before I moved states at the so-called “peak” (this was during lockdown last March) and they told me nothing much had changed other than forced closed casket and smaller funerals.
Excellent, thank you SO MUCH!
It might be false in the small area of your influence (& I absolutely mean no disrespect to you, your intelligence and how hard you’ve worked to get there), but saying “100% false” is extremely arrogant and rather naive. People are as passionate about seeking the truth as you are about caregiving. Assuming anything at this point is careless at the very least, more like dangerous in this case.
