YES!!! Our friend is a manager at a dealership so my husband ordered the new Bronco LAST JUNE (2020). It was due out by Spring, then June, then July. We asked about getting a truck instead & he said just as difficult to get. Now we’re hearing the Fall. His car is so old that we definitely need to replace it so now we’re rethinking it. The market is definitely scarce on cars/trucks!
Exactly!! And of course, I need a new truck - or a nice priced used one! Can't find either!!! I'm so upset at our government for doing this to the American people!!! They all need to be tried and locked away at GITMO!!! Bunch of commie idiots!
4 new Ford trucks at the dealership in Wisconsin. My boyfriend was selling his dads truck on marketplace. Asking 30,000. Local dealership called him and offered $29,700. They picked it up the next morning. I drove by the lot and they were asking 44,000 for it. Sold the next day. Crazy times my friends. I was in the car business for many years. Always said....”what happens in the auto industry, eventually happens in the economy.” Auto industry shows us what’s coming.
I don't want a computer controlled vehicle. Not the likes of which they're producing the last 12 or so years. Had a 13 Taurus bought new, had a freak surge that killed dash and radio/climate. 1500 dollar repair. Just out of warranty. Never again. Sold with 90k miles @ 3 years old and wasn't worth a third of the purchase price. Even with the discount.
Will continue to run the 1st generation super duties and OBS trucks. They were cheap 6 months ago. Lol.
I stopped in to my Ford dealer the other day, and the sales guy said they have ZERO new trucks on the lot because of the PC board shortage. Same reason there are no PS5s, etc.
If there is a shortage of new cars, trucks, etc. wouldn't there be news of a corresponding wave of layoffs at the manufacturers? If new cars and trucks are not being made due to a "PC board shortage", then there is nothing for the workers in those factories to do, right?
So where is the news of the layoffs at the auto manufacturers factories? I have not seen anything about that, and it would have happened many weeks ago considering the slow speed at which new cars are shipped from the factory to the dealers. This reduction in work would have started long ago to be apparent now in dealerships.
I don't care what you understand. We require proof around here. There should be articles, and/or pictures of incomplete vehicles piling up waiting for the chips.
There have been pictures posted of a parking lot full of pickups outside a factory. If you want more proof there are multiple search engines you can access.
Close to empty lots in Arkansas too. Have an RV dealership, we've had units on order since June last year we haven't rec'd yet. Got 6 units on the lot. Some dealer are getting FULL retail. Not a used unit to be found either.
SW Arizona, here. Husband drives patrol around the county. Just made the comment, yesterday, that lots were looking pretty empty, especially the new lots. Used cars are there, but not nearly as many as there was maybe a month ago!
People here in the Houston area are getting offered almost full retail on used (1 year used) trucks because these dealerships have no vehicles. Pretty crazy indeed.
Don't know about the car LOTS, but the car ADS around here (east Tennessee) are shouting on TV about how they will buy ANY used car and what special deals they have on new or used cars. Sounds like desperation for turnover to me. The cars are there, but a new emphasis on used cars. I've read elsewhere that computer chips are hard to come by now, and that many manufacturers have unsold trucks and SUVs sitting on their factory lots, that don't have the modern bells and whistles.
My personal thought is that if an EMP strike were to ever hit America, the more basic the vehicle, the more likely it would be unaffected by EMP.
Been looking at new F150 w the generator for a few months and in last month the prices have gone up 10k for King Ranch/Platinum/Limiteds. Have a golf cart and people can’t find those either, people offering 10k for 6 seaters, we got our 2015 for 7k used in 19 it’s crazy.
Where I'm at in WV all dealerships are low on stock. Not anywhere low as the one op mentioned, but significantly lower.
Went car shopping 2 weekends ago. Need a van, about to have 3 kids, and my charger is not gonna work lol. Bought a brand new 2021, normal price. Should be here tomorrow. Salesman said new cars are being snatched quickly. There was a couple there who literally bought the last new sienna when we walked in. Lots of used cars, but new ones are getting bought quick.
Talked to a friend that shut his used lot down about 2 weeks ago. Small town lot that kept 25 to 30 vehicles in inventory. Told me that its down to the rusty northern cars at the car sale. And he didn't want to sell them. Got another lot that has got 20 year old cars on his now, and just a few. The collision repair business is booming!
Cars from the "Big Three" are scarce, but there are many more Japanese, Korean, and European. Several of the Chevy dealerships are completely bare and are buying up everything they can vet at auction. Odd part is, the B level dealers inventory is exploding with used inventory.
Based on this post the thought just hit me about how Cuba has basically no new cars. It seems to me like this Great Reset that those evil bastards are pushing is attempting to make us Cuba. We know we have traitor Commies "leading" the country right now so its likely not too far fetched of an idea.
Hubby just mentioned to me yesterday that his boss needs a new F250 or 350 and he called every dealer in the area and they all said it would take at least 6 months to get one.
East Texas - Have been noticing for many months that the car lots are very slim. During the covid era, we actually had a couple that were empty! Quite a shock to drive past a car lot and only see 2-3 cars - that's something you notice!!
Her in Thrillinois they are lining up the cars around the edge of lot to hide lack of inventory.
Here too. Those efforts are not working. Lol
Check out Toyota. They have been donating to Republicans and are being vilified for it!

I've seen a few Broncos driving around where I live. I wouldn't mind one, but they don't seem to make too many if any standards. Sad. :'(
I’m in central Illinois and our car lots are very low on vehicles, they look pathetic!

I understand that vehicles are built and sitting in fields awaiting the chips.
I don't care what you understand. We require proof around here. There should be articles, and/or pictures of incomplete vehicles piling up waiting for the chips.
You asked why no lay offs. There have been posts regarding this subject in the past. I'm not here to do your research, sorry.
If you have no proof, then the things you are saying are considered to be false. It is that simple.
The plural of anecdote is not data.
There have been pictures posted of a parking lot full of pickups outside a factory. If you want more proof there are multiple search engines you can access.
I believe the chip shortage is deliberate, as part of the DS economic reset they're attempting.

^ Mississippi also ^
SW MO and there ARE cars, but nothing like what imo should be normal.
And used cars are hard to come by. Dealships what used cars, advertise to buy them, etc.
Probably to try to stay in business.
Scarce at dealerships and rental agencies in Florida.

Can't they sell them without the computer chips??? I hate those things!
Well then, things like GPS, radio, cruise control, etc. Would not work.
but... can you DRIVE it??? I can do without the rest... :) I have my phone for radio and GPS.. :)
You'd have to take that up with the car dealers. I'm just telling you what I know about this.
Agreed! I just think we the people are being fed more crappy baloney!!

TN here, very few.
Hi neighbor, east TN here.... see my comment elsewhere in this thread.

Sydney Australia, same story with new cars/trucks about chip shortage.
Also due to above about new cars/trucks and economic downturn the price of used cars/trucks has climbed higher.
It would be interesting to hear from Europeans if the situation is the same.
This may be World Wide.
Texas, lots are mostly full. They are paying a premium for trade ins though.
Connecticut dealers have very little new inventory and the used car pricing is ridiculous and sparce as well
