Try NAC it breaks down mucus. I have a similar problem (I'm a smoker) and NAC has really helped. Plus it's a precurosr to Glutathione which all those who died on the ventilarors (for covid) were found to be seriously deficient in (as well as Vit D). And of course the mucus is a problem in Covid anyway.
And as an added bonus, it broke the spike proteins in hamsters and basically saved their lives.
Of course if you are in US the CDC has just made it prescription only. I used to get Best Naturals brand which is a US company I think and it's not available anymore in UK Amazon. Other brands are so plan to stock up as they'll likely pull the same thing over here.
How on earth they can justify making a harmless amino acid prescription only without raising serious red flags about their intentions beats me.
That's a whole raft of health science info, to be coming from a smoker.
Here's hoping you find the strength to care about your own health and saving your own life, patriot!! Cold turkey is two weeks of mental hell followed by a lifetime of satisfaction and improved health (both physical and financial) plus a supreme sense of moral superiority—just kidding man! A little humor to decorate the message :)
Oh I know. Been smoking since I was 11 years old (61 now), used to buy them loose on the way to school (haha newsagents sold 'em to young kids then and nobody batted an eyelid). I don't want to quit badly enough I think, as every time I have tried I have failed. I'm just reducing them at the moment.
Worst thing I ever did was buy the raw leaves (heh healthier, none of the additives) as I smoked much much more because it was so cheap. UK made it really difficult to by the raw leaves (no taxes as agricultural product) for individual use so that made me cut back anyway.
Had no problem quitting drinking and I used to drink a lot starting from when I was in my 20's, and many people were sure I'd end up an alcoholic. Quit in my 30's no problem, and it was a few years before I even had an occasional beer at Christmas again. Never missed it.
Wish it was as easy to quit cigs, but alas for me I think I just don't want to badly enough. I enjoy smoking (hard for a non-smoker to understand I know) so...
Thanks for not getting mad...as an ex-smoker and ex-doctor it's tough to just watch people do certain things if you care...LOL
But I respect their wishes as a free adult, same as with the free choice to consume cannabis, e.g., as an alternative to other smokables, alcohol, or some Rx drugs, etc. I figure what if I put out an encouragement into the air with no preach to it, and what if that day, that was the last straw for a given person to go You know what, it's time, I've had it and then they do it and get free and it saves their life, that was a good thing.
Or was it?
A comedian said "Sure, smoking takes years off your life....but hey...they're comin' off the right END!!" :)
I'm not mad 'atcha, no problem :) I get how utterly bizarre it is that I use herbs and supplements, understand about health and yet I smoke like a damn chimney.
Heh shortly before the Rona hit I started coughing blood. Like a lot. Did I go to the ER (or Casualty as we call it this side of The Pond)? Noooo. Scared the shit out of me, but I stated taking Oregano Oil, turmeric, cayenne etc (pepper stops bleeding funnily enough).
Hung on for about a week and there was just minor streaks of bright red blood in mucus I cough up but it got less and less. Then a week later I wake up with what felt like a massive amount of mucus in my throat and tried to cough it up. It wouldn't cough up fully I had to literally pull it out of my throat with my hands. It was thick rope of stringy blood. Black blood. Got it in a bowl in huge clots. Thought for sure I was about to croak.
Now my Mum had varices (booze) and I KNOW black blood is very very bad. I still didn't go to ER (yes, moron here). You know what stopped it and it never returned. Vitamin C! (LOL as an ex-Doc you are likely horrified by this - and how can you be an ex-Doc you mean you no longer practice?)
Something put it in my mind I needed Vit C and I did some googling and found that smokers take in very little Vit C (and many other Vits) many of the symptoms and the bleeding (i'd started t have a few minor nosebleeds previous to this). I think low level scurvy and it would only get worse. Yes, it's dumb to self diagnose but wasn't going to the hospital (especially now as the bastards will likely vax me). Ended up taking 12g of Vit C over the course of a day for about 2 weeks then I had to drop back as it started to give me the shits. But for those 2 weeks I could handle 12g easy. I started adding L-Lysine (already had it to treat the cat) as apparently together it build strong blood vessels.
Never had an issue since but I need to keep to 5/6g a day as when I skipped a day I got a small blood streak in mucus and didn't want to take any chances.
So guess I will keep smoking (albeit cut down but mainly for finance reasons). I reckon I have around 10 years before I croak if I'm lucky as both parents died in early 70's (baby brother was only 54). I think the supplements are propping me up, and will hopefully continue to keep me functioning for a while yet.
If I was younger I'd try harder to quit because more at stake. I only want to hang around to see the Good Guys prevail and an awesome new world begin. If The Great Reset happens though, I'll be glad to be gone!
But yes, I would echo what you say for younger people or people who want to live as long as possible. Don't smoke, avoid alcohol except occasionally, and eat proper food (weirdly I feel better and less mucus-y when I eat protein especially red meat)
A comedian said "Sure, smoking takes years off your life....but hey...they're comin' off the right END!!" :)
LOL, he has a point!
I got 2 fav excuses I use why I don't quit smoking. Smokers are apparently less at risk of serious Covid problems than non-smokers. Weird, but nicotine seems to provide some protection.
My 'go to' because I'm a perverse bint is to do with Aliens. Wut? Well you know how all those cattle mutilations occur, anuses removed like coring an apple, tongues and eyes removed, ditto pineal gland (I'm convinced they are a delicacy and it's nothing to do with 'experimenting' or testing tissue - bastards treat us as food).
What a lot of people don't know is the same mutilations happen to PEOPLE. Go look it up. They even got some Sgt on an Airbase somewhere in US, so even military installations are not secure. I remember listening to Project Camelot many years ago where it was revealed the bad aliens (or demons whatever) do in fact view us as food but they don't like how smokers taste. shrieks with laughter. Isn't that the most fabulous excuse not to quit 'Dude I'm making sure the aliens won't see me as chow'.
I've used that ever since. Especially since they went full on banning smoking everywhere. As if the Elite give a shit about our health. We die younger so don't collect out pensions, and pay more in tobacco tax than we cost in medical treatment. No, if you ask me, they are doing the bidding of their alien overlords and making us more palatable adjusts tin foil hat.
I think it's one of those that doesn't have any side effects - or it's very rare. I think they also use it in hospitals - or used to.
When you get done researching go look at the reviews on Amazon to see what people use it for, and the results they get. It helps many respiratory problems. I usually take one 600mg cap so I'm not not constantly waking up coughing and trying to hack up phlegm. Occasionally I'll take another one during the day. No problems with it thus far after about 6 months.
Interesting, I didn't know that! Yes, definitely look into it further.
Another one I find helps me re phlegm is Potassium Gluconate. I started taking it to slow down a fast heart rate and help with foot cramps. Reading reviews some guy mentioned he takes it to dry his mucus up. I'm less mucus-y when I take it than when I don't, with or without NAC.
Have to be careful with potassium though. I only take a quarter teaspoon in the morning with a magnesium capsule, maybe another quarter teaspoon in the evening. That's a very low dose only about 10%of RDA. Probably could take more as I don't have a very good diet for potassium rich foods, but don't want to risk taking too much.
Try NAC it breaks down mucus. I have a similar problem (I'm a smoker) and NAC has really helped. That's my excuse and I'ma sticking to it! ;)
Going to research it now. I am on several prescribed drugs and need to check any neg interactions. Thank you. I've never heard of it.

Just read where it thins the blood I have had been in hospital for bleeding issues. Going to look further.

As of today it is on Amazon.
