I think I've forgotten how much random shit I put in my mouth as a kid. Soil from plant pots, sand in the playground, random leaves here and there, and so on. I've never had issues like asthma and allergies.
Between ages 7-10 approx, we used to scrape up spat-out, stepped-on chewing gum from the sidewalk. It was a good day if you found a fresher piece which still had some flavor! Unsurprisingly, my immune system is robust.
That's part of why kids who grew up before the later 2000s aren't quite as weak as the newer generations.
Helicopter parenting has become more popular, not allowing your kid to get messy etc.

We have a photo of our son, as a baby, eating sand on a beach. Thought nothing of it at the time. Such bad, bad parents!
