A important titbit mostly missed is that Avermectin (from which Ivermectin is developed) was isolated from soil bacteria samples collected by him. Soil bacteria, folks.
Good germs are important for humans. The craze of antibacterial soap (when the threat is a virus) is a bleeping stupid obsession.
Feel the dirt beneath your feet. Touch it and live in harmony with your natural environment.
If you want another example proving the hygiene hypothesis, take a look at faustmanlab.org. Dr Faustman, funded without big pharma (crowdfunded, more or less), essentially proved that type 1 diabetes is caused by lack of exposure to mycobacteria tuberculosis. There are lots of others, mostly circumstantial, but you may know of them already.
You can find it on that website under the publications tab. It came out in both the journal of internal medicine, and the Lancet in March and April of last year. Would've been big news in medical journalism, but, ya know, something bigger usurped the limelight. As far as scientific articles are concerned, it's amazingly brief and to the point, only 4-5 pages and easy to read, iirc. The TB vaccines provide a similar function to the actual bacteria, but do so less effectively, leaving a portion of people more prone to develop type 1 diabetes than they would have with either the real bacteria (or a stronger more effective vaccine).
I think I've forgotten how much random shit I put in my mouth as a kid. Soil from plant pots, sand in the playground, random leaves here and there, and so on. I've never had issues like asthma and allergies.
Between ages 7-10 approx, we used to scrape up spat-out, stepped-on chewing gum from the sidewalk. It was a good day if you found a fresher piece which still had some flavor! Unsurprisingly, my immune system is robust.
Not much chance of that, since Trump is reputedly something of a germophobe.
But here's another factoid: Ruth Bancroft of The Ruth Bancroft Garden & Nursery (well known for their cactus and succulent collection but less famous versus the Huntington Desert Garden), lived to 109, and she never hesitated to get down to do weeding.

First I'd heard of that, that'd be pretty wild.

That's part of why kids who grew up before the later 2000s aren't quite as weak as the newer generations.
Helicopter parenting has become more popular, not allowing your kid to get messy etc.
Mmm, mud pies were good.. Seriously thanks for the nugget!

We have a photo of our son, as a baby, eating sand on a beach. Thought nothing of it at the time. Such bad, bad parents!

If Trump made this comment I bet CNN would have accused him of telling people to eat dirt.
