When I first got on the net it was called PeachNet and it was run out of GATech. My father knew a guy that was a prof at Dekalb College and they had just linked in to GATech. I got on IRC and talked with some students somewhere in the NE.
Many people don't understand that for the first few years the net was just a haphazard thing setup by colleges. Later they tried to control it but the 1st amendment made that VERY difficult. It was years later when they created things like Facebook in an attempt to take control.
Yep, and with the way MySpace died you just know they did things to sabotage it somehow. Name one other platform that was that popular and then suddenly everyone leaves for another platform that is only modestly better?
