Honestly, anyone who thinks they are not already doing this is too simple monded to talk to about it.

The big issue is, if they are asking for "approval" that means they have something they want to do WITH that data.

Simply picture messages with text and memes instead. They cannot block it all. While they maybe got some results in facebook and other companies (but I wouldn't be sure enough to censor us out) telecomunication companies don't have it,and until know-how will be shared it would take month(s) or more...

And if not this I would talk to friends I would use rot13 ceasar "cipher" in SMS. Or use some numbers as chars (01d 1n7erne7 7r1ck). At some moment they will censor this too,but that would give us time.
