Initially when all this crap started I heard a Dr say that they had used a drug given usually for altitude sickness (lack of oxygen) because they realised it wasn't the fluid on the lungs it was the lack of oxygen going to the brain. It was also when ever they went onto ventilators they didn't help.
Also heard that the smokers didn't seem to suffer as bad but didn't know why?
Because smoking damages the cilia in the lungs and throat and for some reason does not hold the liquid build up in the lungs. No sauce, just lots and lots of reading and studying. Look it up if you wish. Let me know? Edit: Also, I've been smoking 51 years both cigs and ganja, had wuflu and never had a problem with fluid building up in my lungs from it. Had congestive heart failure 3 years ago for fluid build up in my lungs but that was from too much salt intake. Not smoking...
The OP explains why smoking helps, maybe your reason also contributes.
Do they both affect the cilia the same?

Tbh, I don't know. However, it's smoke going in the lungs so the assumption would be yes. I know, assumption is the mother of all foul ups. Kek
