The heading for Buenaventura from Auckland still is different on a globe to that on a flat earth. Fortunately, for hundreds of years already, we know how to do that.
I used to teach Navigation to AWACS aircraft student Navigators. Doing it for myself on a small yacht surrounded by endless ocean would shake-up Chuck Norris.
Yeah...an amazing person f’real. I don’t know if I’d try it these days with all the political turmoil. Also I’m a lot weaker post-cancer. I still have that adventurous spirit tho...I’d maybe go with a small crew if I did it again.
I'm down with the sailing around the world thing, thats a cool way to get out and explore... beats the hell out of watching youtube in your skivvies.
That said... fuck every part of being on a sailboat in the middle of the ocean in a huge storm and knowing if you flip... you're dead... they are never going to find you.
Hat tip to you there bud... no way i'd have the balls to put myself in that level of risk. i have a hard enough time finding shore on lake erie when we are walleye fishing.
Gotta rely on navigational training. I use a sextant as backup. Luckily I avoided any major storms but timing was key. One of the things I learned was NOAA reports are half-assed at best. It was exhausting but saw parts of the world I never thought I would, ever. My faith was built strong on that adventure.

The FE still have to learn navigation.
So, please, forgive their level of literacy.

Man, to a degree I envy you! It is still on my bucket list. ... though a sailing vessel I have, a sturdy one built for that.
Laura Dekker is one of my heros!

What type/size vessel do you have?
A french design called Ecume de Mer. https://sailboat.guide/ecume-de-mer
Fell in love with it's lines. 45 years old, my own black pearl. ;-)
What do you sail?
Yeah fuck all kinds of that.
