The rush is for The Cabal to possibly prep for Taiwan. Plus Xiden needed to hose people someway on purpose quick, to increase the body count. Well, the Taliban is about to whip out the can of crush-ass on their own people and on any US and anti-Taliban sympathizers left there.
It should have been sooner. The Trump administration in February 2020 negotiated a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban that excluded the Afghan government, freed 5,000 imprisoned Taliban soldiers and set a date certain of May 1, 2021, for the final withdrawal.
In fairness, it is already 8/31 over there. Unsure exactly why of this specific date.
Good question. My thoughts - we would not want to be there on 9/11 so the date prior to that of consequence is 8/31, end of the month.
