One of the biggest things to open my eyes was being in the military during a government shutdown. I was frightened to see how many service people live paycheck to paycheck and how panicked they were at the thought of not getting paid that month.
Law enforcement is almost the same deal. Police will follow whatever orders that will get them their next paycheck.
Both the military and the police forces across the country pay so little it's not even funny. The Navy can spend 13 billion on an aircraft carrier, but pays E-4's 25K a year to run them.
Me, my wife and our three kids lived hand to mouth when I was in the military, but now we're well stocked and well prepared.
When I got out of the military, I got a job working as a contractor doing the exact same thing I did as a soldier... in the same building, sitting one seat over. Still being paid by the government.
My first paycheck, for two weeks of work, was double what I made in a month as a soldier, even after insurance... to do the same exact job.
So don't act like any of those benefits are worth a shit stain on a donkey's ass.
The same government that could pay me four times what I made when I was a contractor could have paid me four times what I was making to work 16 hours days seven days a week and take infinitely more risks rolling out of the FOB.
Also, I forced my jackass platoon leader to start calling ME sir, or I wouldn't respond to him which was almost worth more than all the money in the world.
You think you should have gotten paid just as much as an elisted with zero experience....strange. Sounds pretty socialist of you to think that people with no experience deserve as much pay as someone with experience, but I guess that falls inline with someone getting their paycheck from government funds.

I saw a lot of 2 week engagements. There is a reason for such high divorce rate in the military.
My command pushed a lot of budget classes and I was one of the few that followed them. You can be junior enlisted and still save money. It's hard to explain that concept to people who have a thousand dollar car with 4 thousand dollar rims on it.
I am an ardent supporter of law enforcement. But this guy has no business being in public safety. He’s be better suited to be a mall security guard. Or a security guard at Disney. Or a prison guard (since he obviously believes that people don’t have the right to free expression). A sworn law enforcement officer? No!
