Former CIA Director and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday called for the criminal prosecution of sources who spoke to Yahoo News for a story detailing proposals by the intelligence agency in 2017 to abduct WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and discussions within the Trump administration and CIA to possibly even assassinate him.
“I can’t say much about this other than whoever those 30 people who allegedly spoke to one of these [Yahoo News] reporters — they should all be prosecuted for speaking about classified activity inside the Central Intelligence Agency,” Pompeo said.
Remember, that the original story painted is as "Pompeo (and Trump admin) wanting to assassinate Assange" based on what some "intelligence insiders" told the reporter.
The original story itself had all the hallmarks of a fake news narrative. We all know that inside CIA there is a Deep State what works independant of the administration. It looks like this CIA deep state was trying to smear their nasty doings on Trump administration (which includes Pompeo).
So I agree with Pompeo, these people inside CIA who spoke on these matters should be prosecuted, and thats exactly what Pompeo said.
As we read main stream news, its important to develop a level of discernment that can help us see beyond the words and beyond the story, because their modur operandi is always the same.
