I work in IT security and have done since 1995. I design secure management networks for very high profile companies and you wouldn't believe the looks I get when they see my old clamshell phone with no internet.
Then when they find out I don't have any socialist media accounts and never have they probably think I'm an alien.
I use an Alcatel OneTouch, but basic phones are much of a muchness to be honest.
If it has a full blown operating system and touch screen etc. then steer clear unless you are happy to jailbreak them and install vpn blocking software.
edit: make sure you can remove the battery as well.
I purchased a bootloader unlocked android phone and installed e/OS/ operating system. it is de-Googled and you can run non google stuff. it was tough letting go of Google Maps (i got used to life without it), but man does it feel good.
I did a lot of research on this last year and I even picked a phone model, but never purchased it and now forget which one I picked!
However, you need to know that many non-smart phones are still somewhat smart. Most of the modern phones run KaiOS, which has partnered with Mozilla, Facebook, and Google.
Some Nokia phones, as I recall, run their own brand of OS. However, the Nokia phone that has the features I want (namely 4g hotspot) is not compatible with the bands in the USA.
So as much as I want to get rid of my smartphone (and smart TV, etc.) I cannot find a phone that satisfies my needs and does not run a smart OS. I don't want to be on Android, iOS, or KaiOS.
No. You have no clue what my needs are for work and daily life. No clue where I live or what I do. So when I say "needs", you can deal with it and move on.
This is me in a nutshell, using a 3G telstra 8 year old T55 'inherited' from a former workplace. Used for texts and calls and the odd pic , no apps, no internet, gps etc.
Laptop and sometimes desktop used for internet and the GA.w
I have wondered what it would take to truly make a phone using chips from the US (ie Micron) with an PS that is not tied to Google/FB/Microsoft.
I would want it to still run APKs that android or iOS run, to make it an easy transition.
Also go back to a removable battery & possibly v2 allow for moddable components (ie size remains the same & components can easily be added/removed including main storage & RAM.

I've seen this shit coming since 1998.
Do you recommend the Cat above or something else?

I've never owned a smart phone. I still use a dumb Nokia.
In endorse this. I use my phone only to play games and nothing else. Not even to receive phone calls since no one calls me anymore!

I miss my J2ME phones.
I think you mean wants
