21 y.o. Male here, I’m in very good shape and like to spend time outdoors and at the gym as much as possible. I’m trying to decide what to do for work, knowing we are bound for a collapse.
My thoughts are going to college for Construction Management, going into a trade, and even doing real estate or some work online. I know nothing’s perfect but I could use guidance and wisdom from some of you guys
Cheers mates!
Do a combination of what you enjoy and what you are good at.
I agree completely. It took me a long time to realize it in my career (I'm retired now). Focus on what you naturally exceed in and enjoy. I love to organize and plan so I eventually had a career in Project Management. Good luck.
Here's a tip: whatever you do, document it in photos and videos. Later, this could make you extra money in various ways.
I agree.
Another bit of advice is to find someone that is already doing your dream job. Talk to them. find out how they got into it, what is considered valuable experience working your way up to it, and verify its everything you think it is.
I wouldn't advise going to college these days, except for technical fields like biology, medicine, engineering, chemistry or the sciences.
For everything else, don't bother going into debt and getting what may be a worthless "education". For example, I know decent DOG GROOMERS who make far more money than 80% of new college graduates. :>)
I often tell people to look at professions that CAN'T be replaced by cheap foreign labor. One example is... becoming a certified CRANE OPERATOR. They get paid very well for what they do, and no boss (or anyone with common sense) ever wants to upset a crane operator. Also, you are driving a $3 Million rig... and lifting loads that may be worth $1/2 Million. The property owners don't want some guy making $20/hour controlling that crane. They don't mind spending $200 per hour to have a qualified operator on-site.
That's just one example. Another is Certified Electrician. Same reasons.
Find something you want to do, but see if you can become something that isn't easily replaced by an illegal immigrant who will work for $10 per hour. Do something that people are more than willing to pay $$$ for your services.
Any of the skilled trades will do well in the future. There is a critical lack of skilled workers now.
Well, you mentioned working online, I would say stay away from the tech industry I have worked in it for a number of years and it seems to be dominated by leftist pieces of shit
I would go into the funeral home business/work, not kidding. They will become the number necessity here soon.
I got a kick out of your joke here even though it’s a dark one xD
If you are good at a trade, get a job doing it. HVAC, plumbing, construction, etc. Then save your money and build a solid reputation. Your plan should be start your own business for your trade.
Real Estate brokers can make good money if you stay at it long enough and build a large network of clients. I have seen people do really well at it, but the ones that are best at it are relentless when it comes to lead generation. If you like that sort of thing go for it.
As your working the trade, get a degree online in business administration.
Trade. There are a lot of trades people close to retirement age. Depending upon your field of choice, I personally know of pipe fitters making six figure incomes. And these are not union guys either, private sector. Especially if you specialize in your work, example “High Purity piping” or stainless steel welding, etc. You won’t regret it, I haven’t.
Welding or any skilled trade
Don't work for someone else. Create your own business.
Arborists make good $ and it's fun, Welding pays very good and you can go anywhere. An Auto technician also makes very good $ if you are good. All 3 of those also have a high potential for starting your own business. Wyoming tech can teach you 2 of those at the same time.
I admit I did all 3. I am retired and 47, all 3 businesses are doing great. I fish a lot and fuck off on the internet.
All 3 at one time to retire at 47 ? Good for you .. jealous.. How did you do it kek ??
One grandfather was a welder one was a mechanic and Jesus was a carpenter. I learned from all 3. I started my shop at 33 and fixed cars and welded. I found out that tree companies have a hard time disposing of large trees, so I bought a sawmill and a crane truck to take the big wood. It's free. A slab of elm for a table is $1,000 bucks there are 10 in one big log. Shop is run by employees and the wood gig was a cover for being a full time digital soldier for the last 4 years.
Sales.
Look for a co-op opportunity. Work/school type setup. Trades of any kind. High voltage lineman.
in my area appliance repairmen are hiring young people with a signing bonus and paying them while they learn the trade
Depends on what you really prefer. Especially trades. HVAC and electrical can pay pretty good.in some areas and your not.covered in sewage half the time. Tbere are also a lot of outdoor crews which will put.you outdoors more doing digging, piping, and concrete work.
If you are not sure you can try and get.in with a local mid sized general contractor. There you will get broad access and learn the difference betweeen residential, commercial, and industrial. You will also get exposure to the business side.more than if you go pure trade rout
If you are good at it and can stomach the bullshit for a while go into software engineering. Go to a big company, do 4 years, buy a house and get out.
Aircraft mechanic,plumber electrician........
Trade work is going to be very much needed, plumbers , electrician, and the like. For every 5 that quit/retire 1 takes their place
