A great resource for someone new to the Bible is the Bible Project on YouTube. They give short narrated explanations accompanied by animations of each each book of the Bible. That’s how I introduced my wife to Christianity. She grew up in a godless home and really enjoyed these presentations. (youtu.be)

Watch “The Chosen”. It’s a miniseries that has its own app. Good stuff!!

I watch and support The Chosen as well. It’s a great show. I love how the show seems to balance the almighty with Jesus’ human perspective.

Hillsdale offers some really great FREE courses on the Bible. The genesis class was pretty damn amazing.

I like all their Bible based stuff. They did a video about social justice though that was absolute crap.

I'm doing a "Read the Bible in One Year" program through Bible Project and feel like I'm reallly getting a lot out of it.

Wouldnt the bible have been manipulated and changed, by these evil powers over the centuries?

Turns out it hasnt. Read The Case for Christ for thorough answer.

Yep read. Still does not explain my question. The word of god for me can be heard out all through my body and the universe that surrounds me. Sure I can see parallels with this in the bible and a lot of other religious texts. But to say that the word of gohd/Jesus has not been manipulated by those in power is ridiculous. Evan the first 3 words of the bible “in the beginning” has been falsely translated as the original stated “ in a beginning”

I have upmost respect for those who find gohd through Jesus and the bible.
As There is only one universal Gohd.

That was an interesting note about the first three words of Genesis. There is room for a debate there. I think it would lack humility to claim that it was interpreted incorrectly. Theres a good discussion happening on hermeneutics.stackexchange.com

Case for Christ goes over specifically the topic of the accuracy and dependability of the Bible, especially new testament.

Thanks - I will check into it. This is something I have been looking for.

If you haven't seen Jordon Peterson's lecture series on the Bible - definitely take a look.

My wife and I spent over 6 months, every Sunday morning listening to the Genesis series one by one [link below].

It really opened my mind and eyes.

Hopefully your recommendation furthers my knowledge.

Curious as to anyone’s thoughts on Thomas Paine’s Age of Reason; he makes valid points and it’s hard for me to find where he’s wrong. Raised catholic, ‘turned atheist’, open to all possibilities but still feel there are too many problems for me to buy into The Bible or Christianity (how can one trust a house if the foundation is faulty?)

Haven't read it but curious, how is the foundation faulty? The Bible is the most trustworthy piece of classic literature there is. Especially the new testament, if you cant trust that, you cant trust that anything in our history books ever happened. Read “Case For Christ” for a better explanation.

Great book. I'd also recommend his follow-up "Case for Faith" which is a succinct and scientific take down of all things evolution. Good ammo to dismantle any die-hard evolutionist you might know.

Another good take down of evolution is Stephen C Meyers’ Signature in the Cell. Not only will you learn about how improbable evolution is but how DNA works and it’s quite impossible for DNA to evolve they Darwin proposed. It is follow up to his first book Darwin’s Doubt that focuses more Darwin and his own doubts about evolution.

Read it and I will read yours. Admittedly the Old Testament is worse but I still have many questions (and as is usually the case these days- my doubts and questions stem more from who has controlled the information and who has/is benefiting from controlling said information.) There ARE inconsistencies, so I then have to wonder, did those scholars who assembled the Bible not realize this, or did/do they know and just don’t care bc ‘we’re sheep’?? Thanks for the suggestion fren, I’ll lyk after I have a chance to check it out. Wwg1wga

Sure. Which is exactly my point, if this is His Word and His religion, then shouldn’t it be bulletproof? If it isn’t (even if it’s bc man corrupted it), and it hasn’t been corrected, why not?

Bruh idk what’s worse, your hypocrisy (for you to even use the word ‘humble’), or your blind ignorance (no self reflection just a knee jerk instinct to regurgitate the indoctrination you’ve so happily swallowed). You clearly have never read the book I asked about yet here you are (actually reminds me a lot of the lefties- no substance, just buzzwords that make them feel fuzzy). Go read THE AGE OF REASON and then tell me the same thing with the same level of conviction. [although we both know you won’t read shit, just reply with another tired pious fraud line]

Do you have an example of an inconsistency? I hope you understand that this isnt coming from an argumentative place, i just love talking about the subject. I didnt understand how the Bible was structured until recently.

This is from pg52 (part 2, s3) and just one small example of how (esp in part two) he goes book by book to examine flaws, [you can search Thomas Paine Age of Reason and find a free pdf btw]: “ After telling that Moses went to the top of Pisgah (and it does not appear from any account that he ever came down again), he tells us that Moses died there in the land of Moab, and that he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab; but as there is no antecedent to the pronoun he, there is no knowing who he was that did bury him. If the writer meant that he (God) buried him, how should he (the writer) know it? or why should we (the readers) believe him? since we know not who the writer was that tells us so, for certainly Moses could not himself tell where he was buried. The writer also tells us, that no man knoweth where the sepulchre of Moses is unto this day, meaning the time in which this writer lived; how then should he know that Moses was buried in a valley in the land of Moab?” I appreciate your curiosity and respectfulness, I also find these conversations very interesting and look forward to continuing.

I think it is understood that while Moses is credited as author of Deuteronomy, he did not actually write it as is obvious when discussing his death. So at least the start and end were penned by an unknown writer.

Assuming the text was not written in real time, some time had passed between Moses’ death and the writing, it could be assumed that the unknown writer witnessed the burial but upon inspection of the valley could not pin point the location.

This doesnt seem like that big of a deal.

We’re going through the book of John right now in our small group so i skipped ahead to Paine’s section on that. His first issue is with Moses’ prophesy about Jesus. Bibletrack.org has a good argument for why Paine was mistaken.

I will gladly check that article out, thank you fren. Yes, that’s not the best example but as you can see he gets rather wordy at times so this was meant as a sample of his style. I agree that at times he may seem to let his temper get the best of him and I don’t always agree with his conclusions, but I do think he brings up plenty of good points that are at least worthy of some extra thought (Especially in his assertion that prophet May just be a miss interpretation/translation of poet). Even though he points out a lot of small details, I wonder at what point enough small lies omissions changes, as slight as they may be, add up to be a disqualification.

I would be hesitant to rely on this book for your conclusions. Later on the Book of John section he has an issue with The fact that Jesus didnt have any broken bones and John said that fulfilled a prophesy. He missed the point about Jesus being the perfect sacrifice for us all. The old testament talks about the preparation of an animal sacrifice, and Jesus was called the Lamb of God. Paine isnt putting those two things together.

My first impression is that he comes off bitter and bias. If you have any really good points, i would enjoy them, but so far what Ive read is probably only useful to motivate a position you already hold.
